I had severe pain in between hip and under lower ribs on the right. I was admitted to hospital in December and was told it was musculoskeletal chest/back pain. I was given morphine and paracetamol to help with the pain but this did little to help other than slightly improve sleep. I had got so depressed I was contemplating going into a rest home. I still had ongoing pain until my acupuncture treatment in mid January.
I felt the pain was subsiding from the first week of treatment and I stopped the morphine almost immediately and then gradually the paracetamol all within the first two treatments.
I am now able to do my gardening again and socialise. My family and friends are amazed at how well I am now.
I don’t use my walking frame or stick any more.
I am 84 years old and now feel years younger thanks to your treatment. I was put at ease and felt very relaxed throughout.

I was having problems sleeping. Would go to sleep ok but would wake a couple of hours later and be awake for the rest of the night. I was getting very frustrated with lack of sleep and had not been coping. I did not look forward to going to bed because I knew it was going to be a long night.

After the first treatment I noticed a difference. I was able to go back to sleep easier. I am now sleeping all night. Occasionally I wake once through the night but easily go back to sleep.

I had tried many herbal sleeping remedies as well as prescription medicine. The prescription worked but as soon as I stopped taking it I went back to old habits.

It is great to go to bed at night and know I am going to get a good sleep. I have a lot going on at the moment and I am coping so much better now.

Thanks Brett,

I felt very depressed and lethargic with not much energy for day to day activities. I was frustrated because I couldn’t read for any length of time due to strain up the side of my neck, often using a foam collar for support. Housework was also a painful experience due to this feeling of strain.

With my neck pain and arthritis in my knees I was having difficulty at the bowling club too.

After about six treatments I found my neck movement had improved and the pain and discomfort starting to lessen. I was getting energy back and my knees have slowly improved so feel activities such as my bowling days are not so tiring.

I do not use the foam collar anymore and I can also manage now without regular use of painkillers. The treatment has freed me from so much discomfort that I have a much happier feeling again.

I had itchy psoriasis rashes on my legs, arms, back and chest – overlaid with inflammation from an allergic reaction to antibiotics. There was a large patch on one leg that was infected and suppurating.

I was worried. Having had the experience of months of trying other treatments unsuccessfully, I believed that at my age of 75, I couldn’t expect the disease to leave me. I was suffering, fatigued from broken sleep, and not able to carry on with life as normal.

After just a few of your treatments, I was relieved of the worry as I began to notice signs of improvement. That was a big thing, especially your confidence and encouragement. I was learning more about the condition and how to cooperate with the treatment. Eventually all the symptoms cleared. My life returned to a new comfortable normal.

It felt like having a new lease on life. I was delighted to be free of the symptoms, and happy to incorporate changes I had made, for example to my diet, on a permanent basis. I was pleased to have developed an undersanding about psoriasis – that it lurks in the system and can flare up. I can now retrospectively pinpoint exactly what will cause a flare up and how I can remain free of symptoms. I am grateful to Brett, and happy that as a result of the experience I am better tuned in to my body.

The concept of Qi has taken up many books on the subject so I don’t want to get too wordy here.

I will try to keep this short. But know that the question “What is Qi?” requires a lot of study and understanding to even come close to really knowing what it is.

The meaning of Qi (pronounced “Chee”) is not easy to translate into english. No one word can fully describe its deep philosophical reference to life and all that is. It is commonly translated as “Energy” in english but is much more than this.

Qi infuses all of life – humans, plants, animals, gravity, water, sun, air – everything. In the human body Qi is a pervasive network that vitalises the blood, enables nerve conductance, sustains organ activity and provides functional capacity for every cell and tissue in the living process. Science can tell us how specific cells work and interact but Qi is why they do what they do.

In Chinese Medicine it is understood that Qi moves around the body via a network of “meridian” lines. It is via these meridian networks that acupuncture is able to stimulate and communicate with the body’s innate healing capabilities.

It is important to choose an acupuncturist who is qualified and competent. This is not only for the obvious safety aspect but also so you know you are receiving the “real deal” when it comes to Chinese/Oriental Medicine and the medical philosophies surrounding it.

All too often I have had people tell me “I had acupuncture once, it didn’t work for me.” or “It was painful and uncomfortable”. At least 95% of the time on further questioning they had received their acupuncture from a physiotherapist, osteopath, chiropractor or G.P. This is not to say that some of these practitioners do not complete a lot of extra training into acupuncture and can be good at what they know but even then they often only have a partial understanding of the medicine at best. They often know little of what it can offer as a complete medical system.

I am passionate about this topic, just as any health practitioner should no matter what field they choose. There a lot of practitioners out there that claim to perform “acupuncture” but are not fully trained in the Chinese/Oriental Medical system. They have often only completed a couple of short courses before administering it in their practice. This often falls far short when it comes to what can be offered as a complete medical system.

If you want to be treated using acupuncture to its full advantage, so you are receiving the best possible care, then choosing a qualified acupuncturist is of utmost importance. The easiest way to do this is to look and see if your acupuncturist is a member of the NZRA (New Zealand Register of Acupuncturists). This way you know they should be competent, properly licensed and well trained in the Chinese Medical system.
